Hong Kong International Airport Unveils New Terminal 2
Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has officially unveiled its new Terminal 2 (T2), marking a major milestone in the airport’s expansion and passenger experience strategy. Designed with leisure travellers in mind, the new terminal combines smart technology, streamlined passenger processes and immersive digital experiences. From smart check-in and security processes to striking LED displays showcasing 3D visuals and ocean-themed content, the new terminal is set to transform the departure experience and bring a fresh sense of excitement to every journey.
Starting from 27 May 2026, 15 airlines have relocated their check-in services to T2, giving travellers access to a modern terminal equipped with extensive self-service facilities and enhanced digital capabilities.
Why Travel Agents Should Pay Attention
For travel professionals, T2 is more than just a new terminal—it is a new customer experience to promote.
The departures hall features:
· 68 express self-bag drop counters
· 58 smart check-in kiosks
· 108 hybrid check-in counters
· 20 facial recognition-enabled e-Security Gates
· 15 smart security screening channels allowing passengers to keep laptops and liquids (up to 100ml) inside their hand luggage during screening
These enhancements are designed to simplify and speed up the departure process, helping reduce travel stress and improve customer satisfaction
Travel Agent Tip
As airlines progressively move their check-in operations from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2, agents are encouraged to remind passengers to verify their departure terminal before travelling to the airport. Keeping clients informed can help ensure a smoother start to their journey.
